Statement by the Afghanistan Women’s New Future Movement
In Response to the Official Recognition of the Taliban Regime by the Russian Federation
Date: July 4, 2025
We, the justice-seeking women and men of Afghanistan, members of the Afghanistan Women’s New Future Movement, express our outrage, sorrow, and steadfast resistance in response to the Russian Federation’s shameful decision to officially recognize the terrorist regime of the Taliban.
The Taliban is not a legitimate government. It is a misogynistic and occupying force imposed on the oppressed people of Afghanistan through deals, force, weapons, and brutal repression. Since their return to power in August 2021, the Taliban have stripped hundreds of thousands of women, activists, journalists, artists, and intellectuals of their basic rights, driving them into isolation, imprisonment, torture, and, in many cases, death.
By ignoring the Taliban’s systematic crimes against women, minorities, and freedom seekers, Russia has now aligned itself with tyranny and destruction. It has revealed that it values neither humanity nor human rights—only occupation and domination. This disgraceful decision is a betrayal of universal values, a violation of the UN Charter, and a blatant dismissal of the Afghan people’s aspiration for freedom, justice, and democracy.
We call on the international community, the United Nations, the European Union, and all freedom-loving nations of the world to:
Condemn Russia’s decision and declare it illegitimate;
Amplify the voices of Afghan women on global platforms;
Stand with the people of Afghanistan and strengthen our civil resistance, instead of legitimizing regimes that oppress and erase women.
History will not remember Russia for its military power — but for standing with tyrants and criminals, if it continues down this path.
We will not be silenced. We will not forget. We will not surrender.
