Meet Bibi Narges Sadat
Championing Afghan women's rights and education for over a decade.

Bibi Narges Sadat is an Afghan women's rights activist, human rights defender, and founder of the Afghanistan Women's New Future Movement (AWNFM). For more than a decade, she has dedicated her life to advancing gender equality, defending women's rights, promoting access to education, and advocating for the protection of fundamental human rights in Afghanistan.
Her activism has placed her at the forefront of peaceful civic movements advocating for women's education, employment, political participation, and social justice. Throughout her work, she has organized protests, public awareness campaigns, educational workshops, and community initiatives despite facing significant personal risks.
Following the return of the Taliban to power, Narges Sadat became one of the prominent voices speaking out against restrictions imposed on Afghan women and girls. Her advocacy led to her arrest in February 2023, during which she endured 66 days of detention and physical and psychological torture before being released following sustained national and international pressure. Despite these experiences, she has continued her human rights work from exile, remaining committed to ensuring that the voices of Afghan women are heard around the world.
In addition to leading AWNFM, she has held leadership roles in numerous national and international civil society networks and women's rights organizations, collaborating with activists, humanitarian organizations, and international institutions to promote justice, equality, and accountability.
Before dedicating herself full-time to human rights advocacy, Narges Sadat built a diverse professional career in education, healthcare, media production, marketing, youth development, and community leadership. She also founded initiatives that provided free education for girls, supported disadvantaged students, and established one of the few fitness centers dedicated to girls in Kandahar.
Her advocacy has been featured by international media outlets and organizations, including BBC Persian, Radio Azadi, Afghanistan International, Amu TV, Etilaat Roz, and other regional and international platforms. Through interviews, public statements, and advocacy campaigns, she continues to raise global awareness about the challenges faced by Afghan women under Taliban rule.
Through the Afghanistan Women's New Future Movement, Narges Sadat works to empower Afghan women and girls by promoting education, leadership, human rights, and equal opportunities. Her vision is to build a future where every Afghan woman can live with dignity, freedom, security, and equal access to education, employment, and justice.
"Our mission is to ensure that no Afghan woman's voice is silenced, and that every woman has the opportunity to learn, lead, and shape the future of Afghanistan."
